Vinous
(virtually all grenache) Deep, saturated red. Huge bouquet includes every imaginable red and black berry, along with pungent rose and violet oil. Primary and youthful, with superconcentrated berry and kirsch flavors expanding through the rich, velvety, palate-staining finish. Utterly seamless, spherical, exceptionally pure wine.

One of the wines of the vintage, Marcoux’s 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is an elegant, ethereal version of this cuvee. More pure and delineated than the classic cuvee, it offers a gorgeous perfume of kirsch liqueur, seaweed wrapper, licorice, ground pepper and garrigue that flows to a medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant and seamless palate. Showing the freshness of the vintage, it is drinking at point, yet will easily continue to evolve for another decade or so. The sister duo of Sophie and Catherine Armenier produced some of the most exciting wines in the vintage.
